TEXAS

1. (DRT) - Del Rio, Texas - Three minutes and 25 seconds of full bliss can be had in this border town Amtrak Station. 100 North Main Street, Del Rio, Texas 78840. This station has no services. The best hotel in town is Ramada by Wyndham Del Rio.

A Borderland Paradise
An oasis in the desert, Amistad National Recreation Area consists of the US portion of the International Amistad Reservoir. Amistad, whose name comes from the Spanish word meaning friendship, is best known for excellent water-based recreation, camping, hiking, rock art viewing, and its rich cultural history. Amistad is also home to a wide variety of plant and animal life above and below the water.

3:41 in Totality is an incredibly long time. I'm betting Texans and visitors will be horse from yelling and a screaming in joy. The best hotel in town is In The Creek. April in Texas is blooming in yellow and blues of full spring.

3. (MCG) McGregor, Texas

4:23. Now, hold your horses Batman. That is Four Minutes and Twenty-Three Seconds of Totality. This Texas location is going to be eclipse central!

According the McGregor city website: This largely rural community provides a variety of industrial, commercial and retail opportunities. The McGregor Industrial Park covers over 9,600 acres. SpaceX and Ferguson are the anchor tenants in the McGregor Industrial Park. The best hotel in town is called 1700 South 2nd. Ok, this is in Waco, Texas, but so what!

4:12 in Totality in a 4 star hotel. That is the way to go.

Where will you go on April 8, 2018 to witness the miracle (ok, not so much), but the oh so very cool full solar eclipse. Use the above link to pinpoint your point of totality. My numbers on the left are estimates for each city. Now, my question is where will I be?

I choose Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. Something spectacular can happen for you at any location along totality. Magic. Even traffic is ok as the passengers in the other cars are happy and sappy too!

When is too early!? to start planning? Five years ahead. Yes!

This time, I want to be in the path of totality for days before. You will read our Amtrak Adventure Across America with a stop in St. Louis Missouri for the total eclipse on August 21, 2017. We went to the Dew Drop Inn, Bloomsdale, Missouri who will get 2 minutes of totality again in 2024! X Marks the Spot!

4. (AUS) Austin, Texas

On the edge of Texas culture, Austin is blessed with over a minute of Totality. The relaxed citizens don't have to go far to increase pleasure. A pleasure it will be. Amtrak describes Austin as: The brick depot was built in 1947 for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Austin, a center of high-tech industry as well as the state capital, also styles itself the Live Music Capital of the World.

Four Seasons and the Fairmont Austin Gold Experience are the best hotels in town. It may be better to find a place north west of Austin that has a higher time in Totality.
