The Los Angeles Flower Mart

1,280 solar panels installed across 11 distinct roof surfaces, each with its own requirements—interconnected with LADWP and powered by an SMA Sunny Central 250 and Schüco PV modules.

Project Summary

At the time, this project was the largest commercial rooftop solar installation of its kind—built on a complex campus with multiple roof planes and constraints. The array spanned 11 different roof surfaces, each treated as its own design problem.

Complexity by Design

Roofs: 11 surfaces

Large commercial rooftops aren’t one roof—they’re an ecosystem. Each surface had unique requirements, access constraints, structural conditions, and layout rules. The system was engineered as a unified plant while respecting the reality of each roof.

Permitting endurance
The project required a full year to permit—an effort measured in persistence, coordination, and repeated review cycles. The end result was worth it: a landmark rooftop system for Los Angeles.

Engineering Highlights

Scale: 1,280 panels
  • Modules: Schüco solar panels.
  • Inverter: SMA Sunny Central 250 (commercial central inverter).
  • Utility: LADWP interconnection.
  • Deployment: multi-roof design with consistent performance goals.
